There is simply no question that a trip to Pecanwood is a must for all golfers heading to Johannesburg. This famous golf course is situated right on the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam with sweeping views of the Magaliesberg mountains.
Pecanwood was the first course in the country to be designed and completed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, and the layout and design of the course easily matches the breathtaking surroundings. You can expect expansive fairways and large rolling greens, as well as a healthy smattering of hazards to keep things interesting, including five hectares of sand bunkers and 9 holes with water features.
It’s a tough course, but its design is such that beginners won’t leave frustrated, unless the regular afternoon winds pick up to cause havoc. In many ways this is a course that rewards careful planning and a clear strategy, rather than straight power. It’s long and flat, and thanks to their careful selection of Crenshaw bent grass on the greens, they’re consistently fast.
There is just no way that any golfer can leave this course off their itinerary, and when combined with the nearby attractions in the form of Sun City and the Magaliesberg mountains, it forms the perfect way to escape the hustle of the city.
